Hummingbird Resources

Projects > Nimba

The Nimba Project (Hummingbird 100%) is located in the highlands of the Nimba County, in the north of Liberia, on the Cote D’Ivoire border. The concession area covers 914 square kilometers. The area is considered to be prospective for diamond resources.

This area of the country was the scene of a significant artisanal diamond rush in the 1970s. High quality, white alluviual diamonds have been mined from the Ya River and the Boo and Nzra creeks, which run through the concession area.

First-pass work showed some positive diamond source indicators, as well as some interesting showings for gold and rare earths. Follow-up work has been conducted and these samples are to undergo micro-probing to determine the next steps.
There is a Mittal Steel iron ore concession on the northwestern boundary of the Nimba concession area. As a result, the area is serviced by excellent transport infrastructure.

There is currently an application for the change of the shape of the Nimba concession area. If approved, this will increase the size of the project area to 1000 square kilometres and incorporate an iron formation ridge which is considered to be prospective for iron ore resources.
